This engraving depicts the inauguration of Zachary Taylor which took place on March 4, 1849. The caption reads "With Portraits, by Matteson, of some of the most distinguished Statesmen, Soldiers, Citizens and Ladies now at the Seat of Government." The print is based on an daguerreotype by Plumbe.
