"Battle of Lake Okee-chobee"
In this engraving from a Seminole War scene, a young Zachary Taylor commands his men from a horse. The Battle of Lake Okeechobee was one of the bloodiest battles in nineteenth century warfare against the Native Americans. After the battle, which took place in December, 1837, the future president was made into a brigadier general because of his excellent service.
