"Washington's First Interview with Mrs. Custis"

A young George Washington meets Martha Dandrige Custis for the first time at Williamsburg in February 1758. They were engaged by May 1758. This 19th century lithograph was engraved by William H. Ellis after a drawing by Felix O. C. Darley for Godey's Lady's Book.
