Map of U.S. Blockade of Cuba in 1962
"10/23/62-Washington: This pictorial newsmap indicates the extent of the U.S. blockade of Cuba, which may be tested at any time 10/23 since ships of both Soviet Russia and its satellites were reported churning through the North Atlantic toward Cuba. The Defense Department said late 10/22 it was prepared to sink any Soviet ship carrying missiles or other offensive weapons toward Cuba if the vessel refused orders to turn away. Pres. Kennedy declared 10/22 that Soviet missiles and other offensive weapons had turned Cuba into an armed camp capable of hruling [sic] destruction at the heart of the U.S. as well as neighboring Central and South American nations."
