Henry Laurens Dawes (1816-1903)

Henry Laurens Dawes was a U.S. congressman from Massachusetts from 1857 to 1875 and a U.S. senator from 1875 to 1892. He was the author of the Dawes Act of 1887 which opened the way for granting land within Indian reservations to individual Indians.
