Henry Gassaway Davis (1823-1916)

Henry Gassaway Davis was a businessman and politician who made his fortune in railroads and lumber. He was elected the Democratic U.S. senator from West Virginia, serving from 1871 to 1883. Davis was the unsuccessful candidate for vice president of the United States on the Democratic ticket in 1904.
