President and Mrs. Jefferson Davis

This was taken just after Jefferson Davis's release from prison. He is a shadow of his former self. Varina Howell Davis (1826-1906) was Jefferson's second wife. Her one important literary work was "Jefferson Davis, Ex-President of the Confederate States of America: A Memoir " (1890).
