Jefferson Columbus Davis (1828-1879)
Jefferson Columbus Davis served in the Mexican War and was stationed at Fort Sumter as 1st Lieutenant in the 1st U.S. Artillery when the first shots of the Civil War were fired. Davis was promoted to captain, colonel, and then brigadier general. He was notorious for his cold-blooded murder of Union General William Nelson.
