Ezra Bartlett French (1810-1880)
Ezra Bartlett French was a member of the Maine state house of representatives from 1838-40 and served in the state senate from 1842-45. French was named secretary of state of Maine in 1845. In 1859 he was elected as a Republican to Congress. French was appointed second auditor of the treasury by President Lincoln in 1861 and served in this position until his death.
