John Charles Fremont (1813-1890)
John Charles Fremont was an American explorer, soldier, and politician, who conducted many expeditions throughout the western United States. Fremont was the unsuccessful Republican candidate for President in 1856. In his later years he was saved from poverty only by his wife Jessie's work as an author.
