John Charles Fremont (1813-1890)
John Charles Fremont was an American explorer, soldier, and politician, who conducted many expeditions throughout the western United States. Fremont was the unsuccessful Republican candidate for President in 1856. During his later years Fremont was saved from poverty by his wife Jesse's work as a writer.
