"Washington's First Interview with Mrs. Custis, Afterwards Mrs. Washington"

A young George Washington meets Martha Dandridge Custis for the first time in 1758. They were engaged a short time later. The children are probably Martha's son John Parke Custis and daughter Martha "Patsy" Parke Custis. This lithograph was engraved by John Halpin after a painting by Alonzo Chappel.
