Solomon Foot (1802-1866)
Born in Vermont, Foot was a member of the Vermont State house of representatives (1833, 1836-38). He was elected as a Whig to Congress (1843-47), then to the Senate (1850 until his death). Foot served as president pro tempore of the Senate during the Thirty-sixth, Thirty-seventh and Thirty-eighth Congresses. His funeral was held in the Chamber of the United States Senate.
