Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931)
Edison was both a scientist and an inventor. The most famous of his inventions was the incandescent light bulb (patented 1879). Edison also developed the phonograph (1877). He improved on the original design of the stock ticker, the telegraph, and Alexander Graham Bell's telephone.
