Charles William Eliot (1834-1926)

Eliot was president of Harvard. In 1865 Eliot began a professorship of chemistry at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. In 1869 Eliot was elected president of Harvard. He began a sweeping reform of the university, including the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, the Law School, and the Medical School. He resigned in 1909. His published writings are extensive.
