John Erskine (1879-1951)
Erskine was a college professor who wrote scholarly works on English literature and music, but he is best known for his satiric and entertaining novels based on legend, such as "The Private Life of Helen of Troy." In middle age he became a concert pianist and was president of Juilliard School of Music from 1928 to 1937. He wrote three autobiographies.
