Edward Everett (1794-1865)

Edward Everett, a famous orator, served as a congressman from 1825 to 1835, governor of Massachusetts from 1836 to 1839, a U.S. senator, and secretary of state under Millard Fillmore. Everett delivered a speech which lasted over two hours before President Abraham Lincoln gave his famous Gettysburg Address which lasted about two minutes.
