Charles William Field (1828-1892)
Charles William Field was a major general in the Confederate Army. Field graduated West Point in 1849 and taught cavalry there before resigning to join the Confederacy. After he was appointed brigadier general in 1862 he led his brigade at 2nd Bull Run, where he was wounded in the hips. Despite a long convalescence, he never fully recovered. In 1864 Field was named major general and commanded Hood's Division at Spotsylvania, Fort Harrison, and Appomattox, where he surrendered.
