Eugene Field (1850-1895)

Field held editorial positions with several Midwestern and western newspapers. In 1883 he joined the "Chicago Morning News," with which he was to stay until his death. Field wrote an editorial column called "Sharps and Flats," filled with his comical whimsy and eccentric imagination. He published several works of verse and of humor. He was the brother of Roswell Martin Field.
