Phineas D. Gurley

Phineas Gurley was the minister of New York Avenue Presbyterian Church in Washington, where Lincoln attended services. On April 19, 1865, Gurley preached Lincoln's funeral sermon in the East Room of the White House. Dr. Gurley was at Lincoln's side when he died four days earlier. Gurley had also presided over the funeral service of Lincoln's son, Willie.
