Rush C. Hawkins (1831-1920)
Rush Christopher Hawkins headed a colorful Civil War regiment known as Hawkins' Zouaves (Ninth New York Regiment). He began the war as a colonel and ended as a brigadier general of volunteers. He was usually at the center of controversy. In 1872 he served in the New York state legislature. Hawkins is also famous for his remarkable collection of incunabula.
