Nathaniel Hawthorne (1804-1864)
Nathaniel Hawthorne was one of the U.S.'s greatest nineteenth-century authors. In his early years he wrote short stories, before turning to full-length novels. His best-known works were "The Scarlet Letter" (1850) and "The House of the Seven Gables" (1851). This print was taken from an early 1848 daguerreotype.
