Charles Hay

Charles Hay was a country doctor in Salem, Indiana, when his son John Hay (the future secretary of state) was born. He and his wife, Helen Leonard, took their four children west, to Warsaw, Illinois, where John grew up under arduous conditions. Charles Hay's extended family helped John through school.
