Joseph Lee Heywood
Joseph Heywood was the acting cashier in the First National Bank in Northfield, Minnesota, bank when the James-Younger Gang held it up on September 7, 1876. When Heywood refused to open the safe, Frank James cut his throat and shot him. Heywood is considered the hero of the Northfield bank robbery.
