Bennett H. Hill (c.1817-1886)
Bennett H. Hill was a brevet brigadier general in the Union Army. He first fought in the Mexican War before going to the frontier. In 1861 he refused to surrender Fort Brown, in Texas, to the Confederates. He was sent to Key West and promoted to major. Promoted to lieutenant colonel at the end of the war, he retired in 1870 as brevet brigadier general.
