Henry Washington Hilliard (1808-1892)

Henry Washington Hilliard opposed secession but bowed to the wishes of Alabama. In April 1862 he was appointed colonel and raised a large command of 3,000 men. He fought in East Tennessee but resigned in December 1862. After the war he became U.S. minister to Brazil.
