Theophilus H. Holmes (1804-1880)
Theophilus Hunter Holmes was a lieutenant general in the Confederate Army. He had distinguished himself in the Mexican War but because of deafness did not succeed as well in the Civil War. Nonetheless Jefferson Davis appointed him lieutenant general on October 10, 1862. Holmes soon asked to be relieved of his command.
