Joseph Holt (1807-1894)

Joseph Holt was the postmaster general and secretary of war under President James Buchanan. President Abraham Lincoln appointed him judge advocate general of the army. As judge advocate general, he prosecuted Henry Wirz, the keeper of the Confederate prison at Andersonville. He also prosecuted the conspirators of John Wilkes Booth in the Lincoln assassination plot.
