Samuel Gridley Howe (1801-1876)

Samuel Gridley Howe was a philanthropist, medical doctor, and husband of Julia Ward Howe. An educator of the handicapped, he was a social reformer and an abolitionist. Howe was the first to advocate the inclusion of handicapped children in public schools.
