Broadway, New York City

Taken from the second-story balcony of P.T. Barnum's American Museum, this view looks north up Broadway, with Civil War recruiting barracks on the right and the Astor House on the left. The giant hotel was located on Broadway between Vesey and Barclay Streets. Opened in 1836, it was considered for many years the finest hotel in the country.
