John Mason (1824-1897)
John Sanford Mason was a brigadier general of volunteers in the Union Army. He graduated from West Point in 1847 and served in the Mexican War. He was appointed brigadier general of volunteers in November 1862. After the war he was brevetted brigadier general in the regular army for Antietam, Fredericksburg, and war service.
