Arthur Matthison

Arthur Matthison, tenor vocalist, poet, lyricist and lecturer, appeared in New York theaters in the late 1860s. Matthison held forth on Dante and recited his own poems, as well as singing in operatic sketches. The multi-talented artist poses here in costume at New York's Gurney studio.
