Avonia Jones (1839-1867)
Avonia Stanhope Jones was an actress from New York. She made her debut in Philadelphia in 1856 as Parthenia in "Ingomar." In 1859 Jones first appeared at Tom Maguire's Opera House in San Francisco. From there she toured Australia, and then England, where she made her debut at Drury Lane as Medea. While in England in 1867, Jones caught pneumonia and died at the age of twenty-eight.
