Colonel Fremont's Last Grand Exploring Expedition in 1856
John Fremont and his abolitionist supporters during the 1856 presidential election are ridiculed in this lithograph by Nathaniel Currier after a drawing by John Cameron. William Seward pulls a horse with the head of Horace Greeley that carries John Fremont, the Republican candidate for president in 1856. The figure to the right of the horse is Henry Ward Beecher, who holds several rifles.
