Charles Augustus Leale (1842-1932)
Just twenty-three, Charles Augustus Leale was the first doctor to reach Abraham Lincoln after the assassination. Leale had graduated just two months before from Bellevue Hospital Medical College; he had majored, among other things, in gunshot wounds. In the Civil War he was a captain and an assistant surgeon.
