Robert E. Lee (1807-1870)
Robert Edward Lee was one of the greatest generals in history. Military leader of the Confederacy during the Civil War, he was brilliant and audacious, able to predict his opponent's movements and take the initiative. Even though he had fewer soldiers and material resources, Lee prevented the North from capturing Richmond for three years. He held out until April 1865. This photo shows Lee during the war.
