Fitzhugh Lee (1835-1905)
Fitzhugh Lee was the nephew of Robert E. Lee. "Fitz" was nearly dismissed from West Point for his behavior when his uncle was superintendent. He was a serious and competent fighter, however, and became a Confederate major general at the age of twenty-eight (August, 1863). After the war he was elected governor of Virginia (1885-89). Then from 1896 to 1898 he was U.S. consul to Havana. He wrote several historical works.
