Charles Godfrey Leland (1824-1903)

Charles Godfrey Leland was an American humorist and journalist. He wrote more than fifty books on a wide range of topics, from tinkers' languages to Italian witches. He was the author of "Hans Breitmann's Ballads," the comic adventures of a German visiting the United States. He was also an educator, fighting to make industrial art a part of the school curriculum.
