James Longstreet (1821-1904)
James Longstreet was a Confederate officer during the American Civil War. A graduate of the U.S. Military Academy at West Point, N.Y., he resigned from the U.S. Army when his native state, South Carolina, seceded from the Union; he was made a brigadier general in the Confederate Army. He fought in the 1st and 2nd Battles of Bull Run.
