Ida Saxton McKinley (1847-1907)

Ida Saxton McKinley, wife of William McKinley, led a life marked by tragedy. Her mother and two children died within a two-year period (1873-1875). Mrs. McKinley then became an invalid and was stricken with phlebitis and epilepsy. In 1901 her husband was assassinated. In this photograph she looks down at a fan on her knee. She wears a long, lacy gown.
