Charles Dickens (1812-1870)
Charles Dickens was an English writer and one of the world's most popular novelists. He was remarkably skilled and prolific. Many of Dickens's novels were written as monthly installments in newspapers. Some of his best known were "Oliver Twist" (1838), "A Christmas Carol" (1843), "David Copperfield" (1850), "A Tale of Two Cities" (1859), and "Great Expectations" (1861). He gave a tour of readings in the U.S. in 1867 and 1868.
