John Dillon (1831-1914)
John Dillon was a lawyer and author of judicial works. In 1863 he began a six-year term on the Supreme Court of Iowa. President Grant appointed him to the U.S. circuit court of the 8th judicial district. Dillon was one of the best known legal thinkers and writers of the 1870s. He moved to New York to teach at Columbia University and opened a practice on Wall Street. Dillon made more appearances before the U.S. Supreme Court than any other lawyer in the U.S.
