"Washington Taking Leave of the Officers of the Army"
General George Washington bids farewell to his officers at the end of the Revolutionary War in this 1848 Currier & Ives lithograph. They met for the last time at Fraunces' Tavern on Broad Street in New York on December 4,1783. The following officers are depicted in this print: General Friedrich Von Steuben (left), Governor George Clinton and Alexander Hamilton (both at right). Washington was quoted as saying "With a heart of love and gratitude, I now take leave of you. I most devoutly wish that your latter days may be as prosperous and happy, as your former ones have been glorious and honorable."
