Henry Boynton Smith (1815-1877)
Henry Boynton Smith was a Presbyterian clergyman and theologian. Smith taught at the Union Theological Seminary for twenty-four years. He became increasingly famous because of his writing, which magnified the prestige of the seminary. Smith was most influenced by German thought and his great contribution was to introduce German theology to Americans. He translated Johan Geieseler's "Textbook of Church History."
