Pierre Soule (1801-1870)

Soule was a U.S. senator, diplomat and lawyer. He emigrated from France after being imprisoned for revolutionary activities and settled in New Orleans. Soule was elected as a Democrat from Louisiana and served in the the U.S. senate in 1847, and again from 1849 to 1853. Franklin Pierce appointed him U.S. minister to Spain in 1853.
