George B. McClellan (1826-1885)
George Brinton McClellan was the overly cautious commander of Union forces early in the Civil War who was removed from his command. He then became the unsuccessful Democratic candidate for president in 1864, resigning from the army on the day of the election. McClellan was also the governor of New Jersey from 1878 to 1881. This photograph shows McClellan years after the war.
