Edward McPherson (1830-1895)

Edward McPherson set out to study law, but gave it up in favor of journalism. In 1851 he became editor of the "Harrisburg American" and began contributing to other newspapers. He was elected as a Republican representative from Pennsylvania in 1858 and 1860. He was clerk of the House of Representatives from 1863 to 1875. He died in Gettysburg after mistakenly taking poison.
