Daniel Ullmann (1810-1892)
Daniel Ullmann was a brevet major general in the Union Army. Throughout the Civil War Ullmann raised and commanded African-American troops. Lobbying for his men, he reported that his troops were treated like laborers rather than soldiers and given substandard weapons. Due to ill health Ullmann was relieved from duty in February, 1865, and was brevetted major general.
