William H. Van Buren (b.1814)

William H. Van Buren was an outstanding scholar and physician. Van Buren was a member of the United States Sanitary Commission during the Civil War. He was affiliated with Bellevue Hospital, where he inaugurated their new amphitheater in 1849 and then became professor of genitourinary diseases. Van Buren established the first chair of urology in the U.S.
