Zebulon B. Vance (1830-1894)

Zebulon Baird Vance was a U.S. representative, senator, and governor of North Carolina. During the Civil War he entered the Confederate Army as a captain and was promoted to colonel. Vance became a hero by rescuing his trapped regiment at the Battle of New Bern.
